Classes
Introduction to Woodcarving
This 4-session course will teach students the basics of woodcarving. By carving a simple relief design, students learn tool use, tool sharpening, and skills needed to carve more complex projects of their own. Through handouts, one-on-one instruction and hands-on experience, students will learn how to choose appropriate wood, designs and finishes for future projects. The major emphasis is on traditional hand tool use. Wood will be provided for the first project and there will be tools available for student use during class time. Young people ages 8-12 may take carving classes with approval of the instructor. It is recommended that the beginning sessions be taken consecutively. If this is not possible the classes must be used within three months unless special arrangements are made with the instructor.
Beginning woodcarving: Four 3 hour classes – $205
Intermediate Woodcarving and Sculpture
After students have carved the beginning project they may continue the class and work on their own projects. The instructor will be available to assist with both design and execution of these projects that require more advanced carving techniques. Students purchase their own wood but some hand tools will be available for use during class time. Any machining or custom work done by the instructor is separate and is compensated at a rate of $60.00 per hour shop time. Wood supplied by the instructor is charged by the board foot, price varying by species. Classes purchased in advance must be used within six months unless special arrangements are made with the instructor.
1 class – $45 5 classes – $175

I met Sheri 7 years ago wanting to learn how to sculpt masks out of wood. My life has been enriched many times over grasping the knowledge she is able to teach. I started with” Grape. and Leaves” which helped me be able to understand the basics of woodcarving Since then, I have been able to carve masks out of poplar, linden and horse chestnut. I have also carved many other projects and gifts for my friends and family. I couldn’t imagine not having her and woodcarving in my life. It has taught me a world full of goodness.
I have been carving with Sheri since 2009 and have enjoyed every minute of it. I was introduced to it by my aunt who has been a carver and a close friend of Sheri’s for many decades. I feel so comfortable around my friends at Sheri’s woodworking class and the Wednesday timing works right into my schedule.Sheri is a wise, fun person to be around and is extremely knowledgeable about carving.
